Amiah Rae Christoffersen

Finally!! I am so sorry it has taken so long to get on and post all the new baby details! So a week late here is our big announcement!

Okay, so we went into the hospital at 7am on Thursday morning. They had just gotten done delivering 3 babies right before we got thereb and were having a shift change. The only space open was an exam room and I was SO scared we were going to be turned down AGAIN. But no. We just waited an hour or so on a monitor and then the doctor came and started the induction. Two hours of nasty contractions and they moved us to an actual labor room. Twenty minutes later I had an epidural and was one happy camper. Seriously, we sat at 4 cm for about 6 hours. They finally decided to try a little pitocin at 3pm to get things moving a little quicker. Took em twenty minutes to get it started (so at 320) and seriously it was the SMALLEST dosage they could give me on a very slow drip. At 350 her heart rate dropped and they came running and checked me, I was at 8 1/2 cm and she was coming QUICK. They started setting things up and getting dressed. Asked me if I felt pressure. I said yes and they checked (seriously this was like 2 min later) and the nurse goes, "Oh man she is RIGHT THERE!" and grabbed the doctor. So about 4 pushes later at 4:09 Amiah entered the world.

She weighed in at 6lb 7.9oz and was 20.5 inches long. Her limbs are long and thin. She is so beautiful. She started eating right away and has enjoyed every drop since. We went home the following evening at 5pm. They gave me the option to stay another night but I was really anxious to get back to my family.

Tomorrow she will be 1 week old! I can't believe it! She is sleeping and continuing to eat well and seems to be getting herself on an actual schedule. PJ is adjusting well also. He has had moments that he really just wants his parents to himself again but he loves on her all the time and is always checking on her and asking to hold her. He is doing so well. I am so proud of how well he is adjusting.

A quick explaination of her name. Amiah is pronounced, "am-y-uh" not "am-ee-uh". We call her "Miah" for short. This was a name the we saw on a sign believe it or not the first day we were in North Carolina. It was a dude's last name that was running for school board or something. Only it was spelled "Amaya". We both instantly fell in love. There are many meanings depending on where you look. It seems to be popular for Japanese or Aerobic actually. But all the meanings describe her. Rae is the female spelling of Ray, Mickey's dad's first name. Hoever it is not him who we named her after directly. On Sept 11 last year Mickey's sister, Becky, passed away unexpectedly. Her middle name was Rae. We wanted to honor her as we have felt her presence strongly tied to our little girl.

So here she is! I will be better about posting updates I promise!
