Rantings of a mostly-stay-at-home mom

A few moments of caos and annoyance I feel like getting off my ever growing chest- I thought some of you may appreciate, relate, or at least get a giggle:

1. Seriously, how many times can a kid poop in one day?! And when I smell it (a mile away mind you) I say, "did you POOP AGAIN?" and the answer, "Yup. Change me please!" Gross.
2. What the H am I supposed to do with all the mail we get?! Has anyone else tackled the mail monster?
3. A pregnant woman can only bend over so many times before her in-utero spawn wedges a body part in her ribs and refuses to move it in effort to quit being squished.
4. Why is it kids can play nicely and quietly only until mommy has to get on a conference call for work?? And then they decide to have a screaming contest??
5. How is it I can only say the word "no" to my kids or my husband but can't manage to tell others who "need help" I can't do it when I truly don't want to.
6. It is particularly adorable to see my daughter learning to play dress up. I'm sure I'll change my mind on this, but today, I love watching her take things on and off and saying, "Mama LOOK!"
7. I have a yarn addiction. It's true. I am finding yarn in bags and containers all over throughout our home with partial projects everywhere. The sad part is: I love it and secretely feel the itch to go get more!
8. Had many "You know you're a mom when" moments this weekend including: getting excited about the smell of clean laundry, longing for a new washer, dreaming of new rugs, and feeling amazing after 'sleeping in' til 7 and wearing swishy pants all day instead of jeans or dress pants.
9. Feels like typing for the sake of typing; could I possibly be missing college?!
10. And finally, I am realizing, I'm procrastinating finishing the cleaning projects (about about 100 other projects) I've started by blogging....

Time to chase my 4 year old back to his bed to nap for the 100th time in the last hour -sad part is....it's all about the "teaching" him to "listen" that I'm even doing it...I really don't care if he naps or not today.

  1. oh heather, all of this makes me laugh---and probably a lot of other moms will same the same thing---because we've all gone through it at one point in time or another!!! Just a few comments----Learn to say no---took me a LONG time to do this---I really don't have a problem with it---and I enjoy not overcommitting to things I'm really not that interested in doing. I too miss college--seems like a waste sometimes to be sitting at home when I have a college degree---I too procrastinate projects and FB or blog instead--case in point--the dozen plus things that need to be in done before the parents return from their mission in 3 weeks!!! And Lastly, about mail---I once read a statistic--wish I could remember the numbers---about time wasted on mail---this is what I attempt to do---right when you get it--open it all--throw all envelopes and junk mail away (or shred if private), then make sure you have a filing system---things like bank statements etc. that need no response immediately get filed in an appropriately labeled folder--Lastly I created myself a "current" folder--this is for bills and anything that needs attention--once the bill has been paid or call made, whatever---file it away---has really saved me from rummaging through a stack of mail MULTIPLE times before "really" dealing with it!

  3. Good stuff! I totally relate. Boys stink, girls love being pretty, I can't say no (and I never yell at anyone other than my kids), and I like to start projects, but I'm not so keen on finishing them. Good times!
