Always Catching up...

Does anyone else feel like they are trying to just "catch up?" Getting AHEAD of schedule or being on time for something just seems impossible. I mean, holy crow I'm just trying to make up what I haven't gotten done in the last month! We all had a super caotic Friday last night and after our Tastefully Simple Party was over (tons of fun btw, thanks to all of you who were able to come!) Mickey came home and within 5 minutes of sitting down both my boys were sacked out. Catching up on needed sleep no doubt. Mickey took call for the first time this week so that shortened his already short nights even more. And PJ is trying to stop taking naps it would appear since he is only sleeping for 45 minutes now in the afternoon. This was a great shot of how we have all felt since last night.
Since before Miah came I have been trying to catch up on laundry, catch up on phone calls, catch up on blogging, catch up on bills.....you get the picture. So task completed: I'm catching up on my facebook and my blog.
Miah went to the docto
r for her two week visit. Despite the puking she is gaining on average 2 ounces a day. She weighed 7 lb 15 oz. This is her between the nurse taking her stats and the Doctor actually coming in the room. She had just eaten and was in her usual "after meal drunken stupor". I can't believe how big she is getting already.
I must also point out that the doctor confirmed what I have been telling everyone. YES this girl smiles. Socially, totally on purpose smiles at me. She was grinning like crazy while he was checking her hips etc and then after all was said and done and we were going over everything I asked him if it was common for babies to smile at 2 weeks (well, she was almost three weeks at this point) and he said, "I thought she was grinning at you! No, it's not common, but she is certainly smiling at you." I got it on camera today! We were having a whole conversation between us girls and I got some seriously cute shots. She is also holding her head up pretty much all on her own now with very little assistance and when she is on her tummy she picks it up to reposition and look around. I have a feeling she's going to be an early walker and talker also! She really likes to be awake and just be where all the "fun" is. She won't sleep in her bed unless someone is in the room making noise or is near her. So in the afternoons if I want her to take a decent nap without holding her I lay her on a blanket on the living room floor. She sleeps like a rock.
I have noticed however since her arrival that I am also always trying to catch up on my time with PJ and feel like I'm behind on pictures of him etc. I'm so excited that he'll be able to start preschool in January. Finally, he'll have something all his own again! We have started getting a routine going with an activity of different sorts each day where the attention is all on him. That is certainly helping him feel more comfortable with all the changes that have been happening. He especially loves going to the library to story time and is becoming a celebrity with the staff. It helps his aunt Beth is the Youth Services Assistant Librarian there so he get's a "behind the scenes" look at everything. He walks in and acts like he owns the place. In case you were wondering, yes, he is still obesessed with Superman. My mom found this cape she made for my little brothers that has Batman on one side and Superman side on the other. This has helped with the Jammie war but he still wears the cape most days. He has also taken to launching himself off the back of the couch. It drives me bananas. Particularly when he does it while I'm nursing Miah. I can't seem to break him of the fun. And in case you are wondering, NO, he is not flipping me off. He is showing me that he is going to start to fly. It's a sign he does with his hand. Silly Superman!

  1. Lexie didn't smile until 10 days ago... now she does it daily. I love it. But sad we had to wait 'til six weeks to see it!

  3. Love that blanket! And my kids at that age usually took at least their morning nap on a blanket in front of the tv. Not sure why it works, but it always did. I love her smile! I'm glad you guys are doing well--get some rest! I'd come help out if I could...By the way, Christian is going back to NC this week. Too bad you guys have moved already...
