First Blog

I've tried this once before and was terrible at sticking with it. But I've really enjoyed reading our friends' blogs and have decided to attempt this again and start our own. So here is an update on us:

Spring is in full bloom here in Shelby, North Carolina. The weather is beautiful! Gets cool at night and then up between 70-80 degrees during the day. We have gotten quite more rain this season than we have seen the entire time we've been here so that is a plus also. It's amazing to watch rain come straight down! The growing season is really long here and plants and flowers that we could only grow indoors in pots in Wyoming are naturally occuring here which is amazing too. All the trees have officially started blooming and there is pollen EVERYWHERE from this certain type of tree that just seems to be puking pollen on the city. Bugs are coming back in full force unfortunetly. Have seen two baby cockroaches (AH!!) in our kitchen already and have had furry caterpillers crawling on us if we sit in the grass outside. Nice weather has to have a downfall huh??

We are nearing the end of Mickey's spring semester. He is doing well in his classes but is ready for a change of pace that is for sure! In March we made the decision to quit the graduate assistantship in the Athletic Training room and now he is working full-time for an organization called "Community Alternatives." He takes care of developementally disabled adults in their home and at a place called the "workshop" where he is what he calls, "a glorified babysitter" helping paint crafts, shred paper, garden, and keep drinks from being stolen by the "drink thief." He has discovered just how much he truly enjoys working with this population and really enjoys this job. He works from 7am-5pm 9 days straight (leaving for classes periodically) and then has 5 days off. This will be a great schedule in the summer so we can head out for long weekends at the beach or go see the battlegrounds near us without having to take time off of work. Thanks to the new job and a nice tax return we were able to purchase a motorcycle for Mickey! He is LOVING IT! Especially with the nice weather, he is really enjoying the freedom...well, a little too much. Last week he was pulled over for not having tags on the bike and the SUPER NICE officer proceded to inform him that he could give him 5 citations for riding with an open title, not registered, not insured, not passing emissions testing and no motorcycle permit. In Wyoming, you had 30 days from the date of sale to complete those things but in NC, apparently until all of those are taken care of, you don't get to drive your new bike. He let us off easy and even told Mickey how to get out of the ticket that he did write him (had to write him something). Phew.

I am still enjoying my time with PJ at home and am trying to get more involved with my Mary Kay business. I am almost 18weeks along with our second child. We find out the gender on May 7th and I am very excited to know who will be joining our family next! The baby is very active and enjoys kicking PJ (even though the baby is too small for PJ to notice this) when PJ is on my lap. I have not gained any weight thus far in my pregnancy, in fact, I have lost a total of 7 pounds since concieving. And no, I haven't been barfing...that much :0) My belly is starting to round out and I for sure cannot wear the same cloths I was wearing 6 weeks ago.

PJ is doing well. We are all still getting used to his new schedule of activities and therapies but are enjoying the social side very much! He keeps us running for sure but we rarely question how good we have it with our very mild-mannered two-year old. He absolutely loves being outside, rain or shine! And has quickly learned to love riding his new tricycle and playing with his t-ball set (thank you granny!)

Please feel free to check back periodically, I will try to keep this updated with our news and stories as well as pictures! Plus, we'd love to read your comments. Take care!
